Review : Juliet Immortal by Stacey Jay

Title : Juliet Immortal
Author : Stacey Jay
Published : August 9th 2011 by Delacorte Books for Young Readers
The most tragic love story in history . . .

Juliet Capulet didn't take her own life. She was murdered by the person she trusted most, her new husband, Romeo Montague, a sacrifice made to ensure his own immortality. But what Romeo didn't anticipate was that Juliet would be granted eternity, as well, and would become an agent for the Ambassadors of Light. For 700 years, she's fought Romeo for the souls of true lovers, struggling to preserve romantic love and the lives of the innocent. Until the day she meets someone she's forbidden to love, and Romeo, oh Romeo, will do everything in his power to destroy that love - goodreads

A twisted tale never fail to grab my attention and this one is about the famous Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. The cover is beautiful, the summary is interesting so of course I had to read it.

A love and hate story about Romeo and Juliet. Romeo killed Juliet at 1304. Both of them never truly died. Their souls keep entering human's body (for Juliet) and a corp (for Romeo) from time to time. Their duty were always the same. Juliet who work for the Ambassador of Light had to help a true soul mate to be together, while Romeo who work for the Mercenaries of Dark tried to turn Juliet to his side. The story begin when they are in 21th century. Juliet finally find her true love named Ben, but she knows that they will never be together. In the other side Romeo, who is still in love with Juliet, found out that the spell could be break but Juliet must love him back, which Juliet will never able to do.

The beginning of the story was good. Juliet who is settled inside Ariel's body once again meet Romeo who is in Dylan's body. Romeo tried to kill her then she ran off and met Ben. I like the Ariel and Dylan's scene in this part. It succeed to pump my adrenaline. My interest decreased a little bit when Juliet realize that she loves Ben, only some sentences after. Yeah, I know this is about a love-hate story but still, I expected more hate than love.

There were some scenes that actually could pump my adrenaline but I don't know why, I was just so relax when I read them. The more I turned the pages the less interest I felt. There were so many "What",  "Why" and "Huh" popped up in my mind. Usually I gave up immediately, but I kept reading because I was still want to know how this story grow. I was curious about the end.

I rated it 4 in the first pages but unfortunately, it became only 2 by the end of the book. Near the end of the book, Juliet finds out that Romeo didn't kill her. She killed herself just like what Shakespeare tells the world. Whaaatt??? Hellooo!! So what was the meaning of a twisted tale when at the end it revealed that it wasn't twist. I just wished the story stick to Romeo really did kill Juliet. I felt like I was being played.

My rating : 2/5
